Meet Mrs. Pipkin - Spadina Museum

Take a tour of the museum and learn about the life of Mrs. Pipkin, who escaped slavery in Maryland and later worked as a laundress for financier James Austin at his Spadina mansion. You’ll follow Mrs. Pipkin’s journey to freedom and learn how freedom quilts were used to help slaves escape to Canada through the Underground Railroad. You can also make your own paper "freedom quilt' and learn some of the secret codes that were used along the Underground Railroad February 1 - March 1, 2020.
