*The event has already taken place on this date: Tue, 06/09/2020
Ever wonder where the many Arabic star names come from? Cultural astronomy is the study of how people relate to celestial objects and their appearance in the night sky. Lowell Observatory Deputy Director Dr. Danielle Adams is a cultural astronomer who is fluent in Arabic and studies the astronomy of Arabia long ago and how it changed over time. She will talk about some of the stars that were recognized by various Arabian tribes and how they were used for navigation, telling time and forecasting seasonal changes.
