Cirque du Soleil with Kids in Vegas and on Tour

By Meg Brunson

Cirque du Soleil has been around since the 80s and is the largest contemporary circus producer in the world, but it’s not like the circus I knew as a child. There are no elephants or lions. Instead, you experience world-class performers, acrobats, gymnasts, and more. But what will the kids think?

Our family had never experienced a Cirque du Soleil performance before, but when we planned our trip to Vegas, I knew I wanted to take the whole family to a show on The Strip. I had no idea just how many Cirque du Soleil shows existed and all the options I would have when selecting a performance in Vegas.

  • The Beatles’ LOVE by Cirque du Soleil at the Mirage
  • O by Cirque du Soleil at the Bellagio
  • Michael Jackson ONE by Cirque du Soleil at Mandalay Bay
  • KÀ by Cirque du Soleil at the MGM Grand

And the show we opted to see:

  • Mystère by Cirque du Soleil at Treasure Island

The great thing about Cirque du Soleil is that they also have traveling shows – so even if you can’t make it to Vegas, you very well may have the opportunity to see a show near you!

I can’t imagine any other show being such a perfect fit for my family as Mystère. My kids are 6, 8, 10, and 14 – and finding something that appeals to everyone can be a challenge. The show's creators understood the assignment and kept the entire family engaged and entertained for the full 90-minutes. Not once did I have to answer a “when is it over?” from anyone.

The performance was the perfect balance of jaw-dropping acrobatics, with performers flying directly over our seats in many instances, as well as comedic performances while the performers and production crew time transitioned from one act to another.

My kids were literally laughing out of their seats and were likely the loudest in the theater. As a mom, the only thing better than an entertaining experience is seeing my kids so wildly entertained.

For 90 minutes we alternated between huge smiles and belly laughs and “oohs and ahhs” of the incredible flipping, twisting, and flying performers. It’s an experience we’ll all remember, and although right now I can’t imagine enjoying another performance so much, we are looking forward to seeing other Cirque du Soleil shows in the future and being blown away yet again. Because I can’t imagine they don’t knock every show they produce right out of the park!

Tips for a Terrific Experience:

  • Arrive early to scope out snacks – the snack line was long and I missed the start of the show waiting in line to surprise my kids with popcorn. Learn from my mistake and scope out snacks well in advance of showtime!
  • Make a bathroom trip before the show starts, and consider limiting drinks for the kids. There is no intermission, so try to ensure the kids (and adults) don’t need to miss any of the show for a trip to the potty.

Anyone (young & old) who enjoys live performances will love Cirque du Soleil. Check out https://www.cirquedusoleil.com/ for shows currently touring, as well as shows currently in Las Vegas, New York, and Orlando!
