Camp Tournesol, winner of BEST Summer Camp - Toronto Star Reader’s Choice 2022, provides superior French summer camps across 14 campuses in the Greater Toronto Area and Southwest Ontario, as well as virtual camps across North America to thousands of campers each year. Established in 2001, we ensure the development of a rich vocabulary through our fun programs for a wide variety of ages and levels.
Camp Tournesol counselors are dynamic and engaging French speakers who create a nurturing atmosphere to naturally motivate our campers to speak French. Our camps are specifically designed for second language learners to express themselves in French in a fun and judgment-free environment with a variety of exciting activities. Our camps cater to children ages four to 14, but all levels of French speakers are welcome! Get ready for imaginary firecamps, festival Friday with challenge games, face painting, pizza lunch and more, water-fuelled fun at our water day, and lots more French-infused fun!
Here is a list of our programs:
Kinder/Learn French programs: We offer programs for younger children from age 4 to 6, who are not in French immersion or Francophone schools. These programs are specifically developed to prepare children to enter a French program in the fall or to improve already acquired French skills. The program is delivered by a French teacher and activities fluctuate during the day to reinforce the vocabulary introduced in the morning during circle time. They will enjoy modules such as parachute games, arts and crafts, sports, show and tell amongst others. They will also reinforce their learning with our custom Tournesol workbook. Each week we will cover a different theme and build on specific vocabulary, sentences and songs. The week at a glance will provide an excellent overview of these programs as well as our video.
French Day Camps: Our Fun French day camps are for children in grades 1 to 8 who are comfortable in French and attend French immersion or Francophone schools. Our goal is to develop their verbal skills and their confidence in using the French language in a Fun environment. We do a variety of activities during the day to promote this, including cooperation games, arts and crafts, creating rap and sports. You can have an idea of the activities by reviewing our week-at-a-glance and watching our video highlights from our French Day Camps.
We also offer Counselor-in-training programs for students in grade 7 and 8.
VIRTUAL French half-day Camps We offer Fantastic virtual French camp programming to children aged 4 to 12 with significant academic components as well as some fun aspects, run by trained and knowledgeable leaders, and on a safe and secure online platform. Children are grouped by age. The “bunk leader” follows your child during the programming and will drop in as needed. They are their go-to during the day. After starting off with an exciting and engaging team rally cry, or “cri de ralliement”, children will go through three modules of programming each half day, with bathroom and snack breaks spread throughout.
Tutoring (private or group setting): Our 1-on-1 online tutoring sessions provide high quality programming tailored to your child’s learning needs and in line with French Second Language curriculum. Our team of French tutors are hand-picked from our for their exceptional skills in supporting elementary and secondary students in their journey with the French language. We focus on targeted remediation, individual support and improvement in all aspects of the French language, as determined with support from the parent and during initial sessions. This could include homework help and tackling specific language areas as identified by the child’s classroom teacher.
