The Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra (CBSO), under the direction of Music Director, Martin MacDonald, is pleased to present the next concert of its 2022/23 season on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 8:00 p.m.
This concert is named “A Nordic Affair ” This Nordic program is an orchestral powerhouse. Grieg’s Peer Gynt sets the stage for storytelling through Norwegian fairy tales and timeless music. The Nielsen concerto, a staple of the woodwind repertoire, is under-performed with an orchestra yet is a vividly colourful and vibrant work. Sibelius’ Second Symphony is a symphonic giant, allowing the orchestra's flow and textures to be explored, developed, and challenged in a largescale and grand manner.
Nordic composers have always provided a rich musical landscape, drawn from poignant stories and rich Romantic lyricism. We’ll explore Edvard Grieg’s music from Peer Gynt with those famous moments of Morning Mood and In the Hall of the Mountain King. Nielsen wrote a fierce and provocative concerto for clarinet which will feature powerhouse soloist, Graham Lord, Principal Clarinet of both the Windsor Symphony and London Symphonia. Finally, Sibelius’ Second Symphony is a symphonic giant which will bring the program to a thrilling and magnificent close
